Totally Renovated House Lam by Nico van der Meulen Architects
August 6th, 2011 - Posted in Architecture, Contemporary Home, Featured, House Design, Modern HouseThe House Lam is the house renovation project of Nico van der Meulen Architects to an old house from 1950 in suburb Bedfordview, Johannesburg, South Africa. The site has five storeys fall that gives advantages to the architects to design a house with perfect look viewing the beautiful views. Natural look is the concept brought by the architects to the house renovation.
In the house renovation project, it is extended over the fall a swimming pool in 3 meters diameter and 6 meter cantilever. On the north to south axis, it is built a rock clad wall and then a huge red beam is also built to support the terrace roof. The indoor and outdoor area of house renovation seems not parted for the frameless stacking doors.
Some additional spaces are made in the house renovation, such as on the first floor for 3 bedrooms, lounge and kid’s study, as well as extra garages with staff accommodation on the top. The former kids’ rooms are renovated to be a study and the master bedroom becomes a guestroom. The house renovation also changes the former cellar to become wine cellar and home theater that gets the pool view. via
